Honkai: Nexus Anima Aspect Synergy Guide: 16 Aspects

Every Aspect synergy bonus in Honkai: Nexus Anima, the exact unit count each tier needs, and which Aspects you can actually reach the top of right now.

By Nexus Anima HubUpdated August 21, 2026aspectssynergyteamsguide

Every unit in Honkai: Nexus Anima carries an Aspect, a conceptual identity like Light, Dark, Hate, or Memory. Field enough Anima that share one and the group gets a bonus, which is the single biggest lever in the game’s formation combat. The thing most guides get wrong is treating that as one rule with one number. It is 16 separate ladders, and they do not agree with each other.

Strength pays out when you own a single Strength Anima. Competition wants seven for its last tier. Oblivion has exactly one threshold and then stops climbing. Picking an Aspect without reading its specific ladder is how players end up with six Anima of a shared Aspect and no idea why the bonus never improved.

Key takeaways

  • There is no universal breakpoint. Strength opens at 1, most Aspects at 2, and Dark, Hate, and Memory at 3.
  • Depth and reachability are different questions. Reality and Competition are the deepest at eight Anima each, but three Aspects have a top tier deeper than their entire revealed roster.
  • Shallow can be better than deep. Oblivion, Pride, Ugliness, and Love all finish their ladder at two or three Anima, so a small roster maxes them completely.
  • Trait decides what the bonus is worth. Strength and Insatiability pay out differently per role, so the same Aspect bonus makes a Protector board tankier and an Explorer board faster.
  • Only 16 of the 18 Aspects on revealed Anima have thresholds. Prosperity and War cannot anchor a formation yet.

Note: the game is in closed beta (the Evolution Test), so thresholds, effects, and roster counts below reflect the current state of testing and can move with a balance pass. The full per-Aspect data lives on the aspects page.

How Aspect synergy actually works

Fielding units that share an Aspect trips a threshold, and each further threshold upgrades the same effect rather than adding a new one. Light is the clean example: two Light Anima grant an 18% Max Health shield 16 seconds into the fight, four raise it to 38% and pull the timer to 12 seconds, and six push it to 60%.

That structure matters for planning. You are not collecting small stacking bonuses. You are trying to cross a specific line, and everything between two lines is wasted on the synergy. A fifth Light Anima does nothing that the fourth did not already do.

Aspect is also not the same axis as Trait. Trait is the combat role, one of five: Blaster, Explorer, Mascot, Mastermind, or Protector. Aspect decides who a unit fights best alongside; Trait decides what it does when it gets there. The formation guide covers the row half of team building.

Anima arranged in a formation before a Nexus Battle begins

Aspect decides which units belong together. Trait decides where each of them stands.

All 16 Aspects, by roster depth and threshold

Depth tells you what is possible. The threshold column tells you what it costs. Read them together, because the gap between the two is where players waste pulls.

Aspect Anima Opens at Top tier Can you max it?
Reality 8 2 6 Yes
Competition 8 2 7 Yes
Light 7 2 6 Yes
Dark 7 3 6 Yes
Strength 6 1 5 Yes
Satiation 6 2 6 Yes, exactly
Memory 5 3 6 No, one short
Love 5 2 3 Yes
Hate 5 3 5 Yes, exactly
Joy 4 2 6 No, two short
Insatiability 4 2 4 Yes, exactly
Change 4 2 5 No, one short
Beauty 4 2 4 Yes, exactly
Ugliness 3 2 3 Yes
Pride 3 2 3 Yes
Oblivion 3 2 2 Yes, with room

Six of the sixteen can be maxed only by owning every single revealed Anima of that Aspect. That is a real constraint on a new account, and it is invisible if you only look at roster counts.

The Aspects that pay off soonest

If you are early and want the bonus working now rather than after ten pulls, three Aspects stand out.

Strength is the only Aspect that activates at one unit. A single Strength Anima gains Light of the Strong, and the effect scales at three (160%) and five (250%). Strength also has a positional wrinkle no other Aspect has: during the Preparation Phase a special hex appears, and the Strength Anima you place on it becomes the Dominator, taking a further 50% on top of its bonus. This is why Bladehound is the strongest early Aspect Gem pick, as covered in the reroll guide.

Oblivion finishes at two. Two Oblivion Anima put the whole allied side into the Oblivion state for three seconds once the team has lost 20% of its total health, clearing all abnormal states and granting immunity. There is no second tier. Three Oblivion Anima exist, so you max it with two and have one spare.

Love and Pride both cap at three. Love raises all allied healing and shield effects by 15% and picks an Admirer that develops Infatuation; the third Anima adds a second Infatuation target. Pride reduces enemy damage and adds damage against equal or higher level enemies, topping out at 5% and 6%.

The deep Aspects: Reality, Competition, Light, Dark

These four field seven or eight Anima each, which means they can staff several rows of a formation without breaking their own synergy.

  • Reality (8, opens at 2, tops at 6): marks enemies as Daydreamers and grants bonus damage against them, rising to 26% and two Daydreamers at six. It is the most row-complete Aspect in the game, covering all five Traits: three Protectors including Inkifoal, two Explorers, plus Seroplumanth as a 5-star Mastermind, Shampoco as a Blaster, and Baggle as a Mascot.
  • Competition (8, opens at 2, tops at 7): the most demanding ladder in the game. Attack SPD climbs to 40% at seven, and a Competition Scorekeeper accumulates points that fire off rewards at 100, 200, 400, and 999. Seven of eight Anima is close to a mono-Aspect board.
  • Light (7, opens at 2, tops at 6): a Max Health shield that reaches 60%. Note the roster shape once you use real Traits: three Protectors, two Explorers, two Masterminds, and no Blaster at all. Light is durable and short on ranged damage.
  • Dark (7, opens at 3, tops at 6): creates Umbral Shrouds granting 45% Attack SPD at six. It is the only deep Aspect that does nothing at two, so it is a slower start than Light.

A Nexus Battle resolving after the formation is locked in

Competition asks for seven Anima at its top tier, the deepest commitment of any Aspect.

The three Aspects you cannot max yet

This is the trap that roster counts hide. Memory, Joy, and Change all have a top tier deeper than their entire revealed roster.

Memory asks for six and has five. Its first tier at three grants 45% Echo Intensity, letting a Memory Anima recast an active skill for free, and the six-Anima tier raising that to 65% is unreachable. Build Memory for the three-Anima tier and treat the second as a future upgrade.

Joy asks for six and has four. Its ladder is 2, 4, and 6, so four Anima reaches the middle tier (6 seconds of Ecstasy and 55% Attack SPD) and stops. Joy also has no 5-star at all, which is a notable gap for anyone planning around it.

Change has the deepest ladder of any Aspect at four tiers (2, 3, 4, 5) but only four Anima, so the 175% Effect Strength tier is out of reach. The upside is that Change is the smoothest curve in the game: every additional Anima up to four is an upgrade, with no dead pulls.

How to pick your Aspect

  1. Start from an Anima you already own or want. Look up its Aspect on the aspects page and read the ladder before anything else.
  2. Find the tier you can realistically reach, not the top one. If the top tier needs six and you own two, your target is the middle tier.
  3. Check the roster shape, not just the count. Use the Anima dex to confirm the Aspect has a Protector or Mascot for the front and something ranged for the back. Light has no Blaster; Strength is four Explorers out of six.
  4. Count how many pulls the next threshold costs. Crossing from four to six Anima is two pulls that do nothing until the second one lands.
  5. Draft it in the formation planner before you commit resources, and check the tier list for how the individual units rank.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a universal breakpoint. Three matching Anima is a real threshold for Dark, Hate, and Memory and completely irrelevant to Strength, which paid out at one.
  • Chasing depth over reachability. Eight Reality Anima is impressive; four Beauty Anima maxes Beauty. The second team has its full bonus and the first may not.
  • Stopping between thresholds. Five Light Anima is the same bonus as four. If you cannot get to six, the fifth pull belongs somewhere else.
  • Ignoring the Trait split. Strength and Insatiability pay per role. A board of Masterminds and a board of Protectors get genuinely different value from the same Aspect bonus.
  • Building around Prosperity or War. Moneytree and Scorscythe are the only Anima carrying these, and neither Aspect has published thresholds. Slot them into another Aspect’s formation instead.

Bottom line

Aspect is the synergy axis and Trait is the role axis, and you need both to build a real team. The useful question is not which Aspect is deepest but which one you can finish. Strength rewards a single unit and is the best early commitment. Oblivion, Pride, Love, and Ugliness all cap at two or three Anima, so a small roster maxes them outright. Reality, Competition, Light, and Dark offer the most flexibility if you are willing to commit six or seven units.

Read the exact ladder for your Aspect on the aspects page, confirm the roster shape in the Anima dex, pair this with the formation guide for row placement, and draft the build in the formation planner before you spend anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Aspect in Honkai: Nexus Anima?
An Aspect is a unit's conceptual identity, a concept like Light, Dark, Hate, or Memory. It is separate from Trait, which is an Anima's combat role. Fielding several Anima that share an Aspect trips a threshold and grants that group a bonus, so Aspect is the axis you build a formation around. Every Nexus Anima and every Eidos carries exactly one.
How many Anima do I need for an Aspect synergy bonus?
It depends on the Aspect, and the range is wide. Strength activates at a single unit. Most Aspects open at two. Dark, Hate, and Memory need three. Competition needs seven for its final tier. There is no universal breakpoint, so check the specific Aspect before you plan around it.
How many Aspects are there in Honkai: Nexus Anima?
16 Aspects have published synergy bonuses. Two more, Prosperity and War, are each carried by a revealed Anima but have no thresholds recorded yet, so they cannot anchor a formation. The lore names further concepts that no catchable Anima carries.
Which Aspect has the deepest roster right now?
Reality and Competition are tied at eight Anima each, followed by Light and Dark at seven. Depth matters because you cannot reach a threshold you do not have the units for, and Competition in particular asks for seven Anima at its top tier.
Are there Aspects I cannot max out yet?
Three. Memory tops out at six Anima but only five exist. Joy also asks for six and has four. Change asks for five and has four. Their top tiers are theoretical until more Anima are revealed, so plan around the tier you can actually hit.
Should I build around a shallow Aspect if I like the Anima?
Often yes, because several shallow Aspects finish their ladder early. Oblivion has one threshold at two Anima and nothing above it, and Pride, Ugliness, and Love all cap at three. A three-Anima Aspect you can fully max beats an eight-Anima Aspect whose best tier you cannot reach.
