How to use the formation planner
Set the team size your player level allows, then add units from the roster. A click puts each Anima on the best free hex for its role: Protectors and tanks fill the front row from the middle out, carries and supports the back row. To choose the spot yourself, tap an empty hex first and then pick the unit. Tap a unit on the board to select it, then tap another hex to move it there (or swap with whoever stands there), or press Remove. Dragging, right-click and the Delete key work too, and clicking a unit in the roster again takes it off the board.
Start with an Eidos if you know which one you will field. The Fits your team list at the top of the roster then suggests Anima that suit it, each with the reason. The bar at the top of the planner counts every Aspect against its breakpoints; tap an Aspect to see every breakpoint and its effect. Your team is saved in your browser and in the page link, so Copy link gives a friend exactly what you see.
Not sure who to start with? The tier list ranks every Anima and Eidos by role, and each Anima page and Eidos pagehas the full kit.
What the planner checks, and where each rule comes from
Every check in the Checks panel traces to something the game says or to our published data. None of them is a verdict on whether a team is good; they catch the mistakes that are easy to miss on a full team.
- Team size and Eidos. The game refuses a battle with no Anima or no Eidos, and caps the team at your team size.
- Protectors in the back. The game says opponents prioritise attacking Protectors and that Protectors regenerate Energy when hit, so a Protector in the back two rows is flagged.
- Carries at the front. A unit whose role is a backline one (from its role where we have it, otherwise its Trait) placed in the front two rows is flagged.
- One damage dealer at the back. The game's own battle tips warn against a single damage dealer in the backline.
- Near breakpoints. An Aspect one or two units from its next breakpoint, when you have the free slots to get there.
- Eidos fit. An Eidos whose Aspect has no Anima on the team, and Anima Companion effects you have not unlocked.
How Fits your team ranks units
Fits your team is a short ranked list, so here is exactly how it is built. It only looks at Anima not already on your team, and it scores each one on four things it can check from our data. Nothing is sponsored and no Anima is boosted by hand.
- 3 points if it is the Anima Companion of an Eidos on your team.
- 2 points if adding it reaches the next breakpoint of an Aspect already on your team.
- 1 point if it shares the Aspect of an Eidos on your team.
- 1 point if nothing stands in your front two rows yet and it is a frontline unit.
Ties go to the higher placement on our tier list, then to name. The top six show, each with the reasons it scored.
Formation planner questions
- How many Anima can you deploy in Honkai: Nexus Anima?
- Team size grows with your player level: 6 Anima at level 10, 7 at level 15 and 8 at level 20, per the closed-beta client. Some in-run effects add one more slot on top of that. The planner lets you pick 6, 7 or 8.
- How many Eidos can you bring into a Nexus Battle?
- The closed beta shows three Eidos slots, and the game will not start a battle without at least 1 Anima and 1 Eidos deployed. The three-slot cap is what we saw in the beta, not a number the game text states, so it could change at launch.
- How do Aspect synergies work?
- Deploying several Anima of the same Aspect activates that Aspect's synergy, and more units unlock higher breakpoints with stronger effects. Most Aspects start at 2 units, Strength starts at 1, and Dark, Memory and Hate start at 3. The planner counts each Aspect on your team against those breakpoints and shows them in the bar at the top.
- Where should Protectors go in a formation?
- In the front two rows. Opponents prioritise attacking Protectors and Protectors regenerate Energy when hit, so they earn their skill by standing where the damage lands. The planner flags a Protector placed in the back two rows.
- Do Eidos count toward Aspect synergies?
- Nothing in the game text says they do, so the planner does not count them. Instead, each Eidos boosts the stats of Anima that share its Aspect, and its Anima Companion gains an extra effect when both are deployed. Open an Eidos on your team sheet to see both.
- Can I import a planner code into the game?
- Not yet. The game has its own Import Team Code and Export Team Code feature, but its code format cannot be read until the game releases. Codes from this planner reopen your team here and are meant for sharing with friends.
